Why 12th May Movement?

By Ester Shitana
On behalf of all peace loving Namibians, especially the youth and the pioneers I stand here on this historic day the 12 May 2012 as a happy and proud pioneer of SWAPO Party in a free and independent Namibia.

I represent the voice of a pioneer in Caprivi, Kavango, Oshana, Ohangwena, Omusati, Kunene, Oshikoto, Otjozondjupa, Omaheke, Khomas, Hardap, Karas and indeed Erongo. The 12 of May 2012 to us is not just an ordinary day, but a day of significance as on the 12 May 1929, the rays of hope and the seed of freedom when a patriot, a revolutionary and nationalist was born at Etunda Village in Ongadjera District in the present day Omusati Region, currently headed by Comrade Sophia Shaningwa who is currently among us here.

Fellow pioneers, I am standing here as your messenger to inform our Comrade Founding President that he is our hero, he is our everything and as such on this important day in his life we are happy and through this happiness we will give him the life-long gift of assurance that forever we shall never betray our freedom. We shall never look down our culture. Comrade Founding, we pledge that we are patriots and we shall fight for our economic freedom until its logical conclusion.

Comrade Founding President, the 12 May Movement to us as pioneers will never be an event but a vision set-through which every year we shall carry out our missions, a mission in which we stand to preserve our cultures, a mission in which we re-energize for the intellectual battles of economic freedom for all our people, a mission in which we shall recollect our appreciation to our forefathers and foremothers who sacrificed their energies, time and lives to give us independence.

Thus we shall never forget or betray these sacrifices. Comrade Founding President, Comrades leadership of SWAPO Party, we as free offspring of the Namibian Revolution shall remain unwavering, uncompromising and patriotically stubborn in the defence and promotion of the Revolutionary Legacy of H.E. Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, Founding President of the Republic of Namibia, Father of the Namibian Nation and Leader of the Namibian Revolution who always taught us that:

"Remember, a united people, striving to achieve a common good for all members of society, shall always emerge victorious."

Happy 83rd birthday comrade Founding President and may your legacy live for ever!!!
