SPYL raises over N$ 60 000 for school fees

The SWAPO Party Youth League (SPYL) Luderitz District organized a fundraising gala dinner on 2nd December 2011. According to Cde. Shavuka Mbidhi, District Secretary of PYL, the objective of the gala dinner was to compliment government efforts at addressing the plight of orphans and vulnerable children in Luderitz Constituency.

The words of Cde. Mbidhi were reiterated by a member of the organizing committee Cde. Brigitte, who in her welcoming remarks, explained the rationale for the fundraising initiatives.

There were several companies such as Marco Fishing , Old Mutual Luderitz Town Council and Sea-Flower, who financially supported the fundraising gala dinner.

Several individuals, including the Deputy Mayor of Ludritz, Cde Celvin Mwiya, Councillor of Luderitz Cde Jan Scholz and others, who made a financial contribution to the gala dinner.

The Gala dinner was also addressed by Cde. Clinton Swartbooi in his capacity as Chairperson of the Leaders of SPYL assigned to the Karas Region. Cde. Swartbooi applauded the SPYL District initiative and urged them to continue with such noble efforts. He also urged the government to continue looking after the welfare of its citizens especially the orphans and vulnerable.

In his keynote address the Secretary of SWAPO Party Youth League, Cde. Elijah Ngurare, welcomed the historic initiative of the Luderitz SPYL District and urged them to continue. He thanked the government for supporting orphans and vulnerable children through the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare.

Dr Ngurare also called on the private sector to make sizeable contribution towards efforts such as the gala dinner by the SPYL Luderitz District. Cde Ngurare further condemned the tendency by some private and state owned companies which did not want to support progressive programmes just because they were initiated by apolitical party.

"They must remember that the peace, stability and economic prosperity they enjoy is secured by the political party which they don't want to support," remarked Dr Ngurare. The gala dinner was attended by Cde. De Bruin, SPYL Regional Secretary, Cde. Sioni Iikela, District Secretary of SPYL in Swakopmund District, Cde. Patrick Xoagub, District Information Mobiliser in Aus, Cde. Willy Gumede, District Coordinator of SWAPO Party, Cde. Kadhikwa, District Mobiliser of the Party in Ludertiz.
