No to violent films

By Kakede Ka Nangula, Namibia

Comrade Editor of our popular news paper Namibia Today, would you please grant me space to criticize programs of NBC as a National Broadcaster?

I remember very well, there was time; Cde Sam Nujoma when he was Head of State he banned violent Programs on NBC. He particularly singled out cowboy films. Because as a people’s leader, he did not want our young people to take examples from American cowboys when they shoot each other. But I have observed the same scenario, of such programs being screened again on our National TV. Apart from those violent films, NBC also allows the most repulsive films to be screened on our TV. There are those Mexican obscene films with scenes of sexual intercourse, intimate public kisses etc. The question arises; what the NBC expect our children to learn from such programs? We get annoyed when our children are doing funny things. But sometimes, it is the NBC to blame for showing obscene programs.

By the way, why there is not more news at one o’clock? How can you do away with news and replace it with that senseless Business Program?

We pay for our TV licenses in order to know what is happening in the world. Also what is going on in Namibians 13 Political Regions. Please NBC, bring back one o’clock news sooner than later. I hope my cricism is constructive.
