Lieutenant General Martin Shalli must Head AU Emergency Military Force

The African Union, after its 50th Anniversary celebration took an important decision with a view to deal with wars and conflict which have since become a prevalent phenomenon on our continent. We welcome and congratulate the AU for such a 21 century revolutionary decision.

We are particularly delighted that this force will be consisting wholly of African troops which will be able to respond to crises and conflicts on the continent.

This force need to be led by African men and women with talent and energy. Africans who dedicate their lives to the service of the African people and those with uncompromising military fortitude. Africans with qualities akin to Lieutenant General Martin Shalli.

We are presently pondering on the prospects and processes of engaging our government and subsequently writing to Madam Dlamini-Zuma, the AU Chairperson, through the AU Peace and Security Council, to motivate the candidature of General Shalli to head the AU Emergency Military Force.

With his well-known military credentials needing no overemphasizing, General Shalli has sound knowledge and experience of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security, SADC Standby Brigade and other regional and continental security and conflict resolution mechanisms. We believe that he will make a good contribution to the maintaining peace and security on the continent in this capacity.
