President Dr Hage Geingob's statement on the launch of the Winter Charity Drive
Today, I launched a Winter Charity Drive funded from proceeds of my personal salary primarily targeted at senior citizens and the most vulnerable children in the central region of Khomas.
With this personal gesture I aim to signal my believe in creating a more humane and caring Namibian House in which no Namibian should feel left out.
The parcels include blankets, food items and other relevant winter supplies.
It compliments Government's efforts at caring and providing for the most needy in society through a range of social safety nets. I wish to call on all Namibians to make an effort in their own personal capacities to care for those who are most vulnerable especially as the winter advances in its course.
Such a drive doesn't have to be limited to winter months only but should become part of a national culture of care by individual citizens to provide for others less fortunate than themselves.
The next places to be covered by the Winter Charity Drive will be in the regions of Kunene (Epupa Constituency) and Otjozondjupa (especially Tsumkwe) for a similar handover exercise.
