Booys' to focus on developing Okahandja
By Levi Upula
SWAPO Party candidate for the Okahandja by-election will focus on economic development
and the provision of potable and reliable water supply for the residents of the Okahandja
Constituency.
Ya Nangoloh claimed that he
had received “messages” from
his sources in the intelligence
service telling him to be “extremely
careful.” He claimed
that two such sources had
named Founding President Dr.
Sam Nujoma, as the “spider at
the center of the web of such
plotting.”
Addressing a packed
SWAPO Party rally, the third
since the campaign started,
Steve Biko Booys said that he
would also make sure that there
was a police station and health
services at Five Rand and
Oshetu – two informal settlements
in Okahandja.
“Yes, the SWAPO Party reaffirms
the true promotion of
socio-economic development
and service delivery and of
course the promotion of
Okahandja as preferred investments
destination for economic
growth and employment creation,”
he told a cheering
crowd.
“The provision of infrastructure
for housing, industrialization
and economic development
and the improvement of
the living conditions of the
youth, the children and the elderly
will be my priorities.”
“I, Steve Biko Booys, tried
and tested cadre of SWAPO
Party stand for improvement of
housing sanitation, water supply,
community services, safety
and social amenities and pioneer/
youth empowerment and
social up-liftment of the people
of Okahandja.”
He said that SWAPO Party
had a clear vision and development
programmes well adjusted to address the needs and
aspirations of the people of
Namibia, adding that the Party
was committed to delivering on
its promises as stipulated in the
SWAPO Party Election Manifesto
2009.
“Therefore my active duty
upon election into office would
be the total implementation of
this important guiding document,”
he said. “Yes of course
the confidence that you the
voters have shown in this document
and made the Party victorious
has been recognized
and will definitely be self-rewarding.
“I am appealing to all
Namibians, particularly the
youth and the born-frees, to be
vigilant and make the right
choice and the only right
choice you can make in the
coming election is to vote for
SWAPO Party.”
He said it was through unity
of purpose that SWAPO Party
had managed to embrace resounding
victories all over the
country like at Eenhana,
Omuthiya, Tobias Hayinyeko
and in the just ended National
Assembly and Presidential
elections.
“We have mobilized our ultimate
SWAPO Party machinery
to defeat and bury Radopa,
(Rally for Democracy and
Progress) and its power hungry
reactionaries and allies,
even those who are parading
themselves as SWAPO Party
members while they are planning
to confuse our people.”
SWAPO Party Vice President,
Cde Hage Geingob, who
was the keynote speaker,
minced no words and thrilled
the crowd when he compared
RDP’s Hidipo Hamutenya to
UNITA’s Jonas Savimbi.
Savimbi, who is dead now,
never accepted defeat in any
election in Angola.
“Hidipo is not a democrat,”
he said as the crowd cheered.
“He is like Savimbi because he
does not accept defeat. How
can elections be free and fair only when he wins? People
should learn to accept defeat.
“I am happy for the people
of Okahandja. I am impressed
by this huge crowd. I have not
seen anything like this at
Radopa’s or Katamila’s meetings.
Where are they? They are
in for a rude shock. You have
made me proud because I see
that you are ready to defeat
Radopa and Katamila.”
The Vice President said that
SWAPO Party candidate was a
young tested cadre of the Party
who was elected fairly and
freely through Party structures.
He urged all the people, young
and old, to vote for the SWAPO
Party candidate. He praised the
youth for being vigilant all the
time.
“SWAPO Party Youth
League, SPYL, warned us well
in advance that there was a new
party being formed by people
from within SWAPO Party. We
did not take them seriously. We
thought these were just young
people talking a usual. But sure
enough, RDP was formed by
people from SWAPO Party,”
said Cde Geingob. “It is the
same with hibernators. The
youth are telling us that hibernators
are there. They are there.
They are amongst us. Very soon we will flush them out. I thank
our Youth League for a job well
done. Keep it up. Keep it up.
Omakee!” (Clap hands).
Dr. Geingob, who chaired the
Constituent Assembly which
drafted and adopted Namibia’s
Constitution, said that he would
consider changing the law that
allows smaller parties to gain
votes from bigger parties.
Namibia uses proportional representation
system as opposed
to single member constituency.
“These smaller parties must
be grateful,” he said. “Some did
not even get enough votes for
a seat but they are in by default.
Maybe the time has come for
us to revisit this system.”
More than 8000 SWAPO
Party votes in the last National
Assembly and Presidential
Elections, which were not
enough for a seat, were distributed
to smaller parties as a result
of the proportional representation
system.
