Situation of Foot-and-Mouth Disease in Cattle

Ondjiva - Members of the government of southern Cunene Province, met on Friday in Ondjiva City, southern Cunene Province, in its second Extraordinary Session, having assessed the situation relating to the outbreak Foot-and- Mouth Disease in cattle, in the southern region.

The meeting, besides having served to assess the epidemiological situation of the mentioned cattle disease - with cases being recorded in the neighbouring Republic of Namibia, was also used for the presentation of the regional director of the Office of General Tax Administration (AGT), António do Amaral, which covers the provinces of Huila, Kuando Kubango and Cunene.

On the occasion, the acting provincial governor of Cunene, José do Nascimento Veyelenge, said this is the moment to adopt preventive measures against the disease, although the province has not record a case so far.

The official stressed that the preventive measures of this disease are already being implemented, such as the suspension of entry of cattle into Cunene territory from the Republic of Namibia.
